7 Attractions of California

Presidio Tunnel Tops, Golden Gate National Recreation Area

Presidio Tunnel Tops, located within the expansive Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco, is set to undergo a remarkable expansion this spring, adding nearly 6 hectares of parkland. As cars navigate through the tunnels below, either approaching or departing from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, residents and visitors alike will soon find themselves able to unwind amidst lush greenery above.

This new park will seamlessly connect the historic center with the waterfront, offering a delightful blend of gardens, walking trails, a plaza featuring a restaurant, gathering spaces, and observation decks providing sweeping views of the city skyline, the bay, and of course, the renowned bridge.

Catering to the younger crowd, Presidio Tunnel Tops will feature a sprawling playground spanning almost a hectare in size. Designed to mimic various ecosystems including forests, dunes, and coastal cliffs, the playground will boast features such as a hydro-tunnel, climbing walls, log structures, and a massive fallen tree hollowed out to create an imaginative play space for children.

Notably, a white oak tree has been meticulously crafted to allow children to play within its hollowed interior. The park’s grand opening is slated for May, welcoming visitors free of charge to experience its wonders.

This ambitious project not only enhances the recreational offerings of San Francisco but also underscores the city’s commitment to providing accessible green spaces for all to enjoy amidst its urban landscape.
