One of Rolls-Royce’s most important and influential models celebrates its centenary

ROLLS-ROYCE this week celebrated the centennial of its legendary H.P., known simply as “Twenty”. Unveiled on 6 October 1922 – and designed by Sir Henry Royce himself – the Twenty ranks among the most important and influential models ever produced by the brand. In case you are interested in Rolls-Royce price, you can tab the keywords like Rolls-Royce price Philippines, then you can get the answer.

The Twenty is the first model specifically aimed at owners who are drivers, rather than primarily using drivers to drive. Rolls-Royce claims this is the direct ancestor of present-day Ghost, Wraith, Dawn and Cullinan, and establishes the mechanical blueprint for future generations of Rolls-Royce motor cars, new from Autofun Philippines.

The Twenty group emerged four years after the end of World War I, becoming an entirely new world, one that had been completely transformed socially, economically, politically and culturally. The war effort also meant that Rolls-Royce had enormous excess capacity at the factories in Derby, which in 1919 employed about 8,000 workers.

Even before the armistice, Henry Royce foresaw the need for a smaller car to face this new world, predicting that chassis sales were larger than 40 and 50 H.P. will decrease. His vision was right, and with the force dwindling to 2,000 men, he set out to build a vehicle better suited to the post-war needs of certain customers.

Mr. Royce also understands that regardless of the circumstances, Rolls-Royce buyers expect the same level of excellence for which the brand is known. As a result, the company has gone to great lengths to ensure that “a level of manufacturing excellence is maintained”. At launch, the “small power” Twenty offered a 3.1-liter six-cylinder engine that made 20 hp (15 kW) and was about 30% less weight than the brand’s Silver Ghost.

Twenty represents a technical leap forward for Rolls-Royce’s pre-war cars, with lighter controls, significantly improved steering, brakes and suspension, and at the same time lower purchase price with correspondingly lower operating costs.

Like many cars of the time, the Rolls-Royce Twenty was manufactured as a rolling chassis, on which the owner placed a custom bodywork from an independent coachman. Mr. Royce intends that as car owners and drivers, car builders will help keep the dimensions and weight of their products as low as possible, although this requirement is largely ignored by many.

Always pragmatic, Mr. Royce replaced the Twenty with the 20/25 H.P. in 1929, and then the 25/30 H.P. in 1935. The era of the “small powers” finally ended in 1938 when The first Rolls-Royce Wraith was introduced.

Between 1922 and 1929, 2940 Twenty were produced. The inline six-cylinder engine with removable cylinder heads and overhead valves served as the template for Rolls-Royce engines for the next 20 years, until Silver Cloud (1955-59).

Twenty’s legacy has continued in other ways. Until the last Phantom VI of 1992, Rolls-Royce maintained the two-car policy that it had begun 70 years earlier. Rolls-Royce says this policy allows it to cater to those who prefer to be driven by a driver and owner, just as the Twenty did decades earlier.

Every Rolls-Royce is revolutionary and evolutionary: stay true to our core engineering and design principles, while taking technology, comfort and driving experience to the next level, said Torsten Muller-Otvos, President and CEO of the company. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars said.

But in our long history, a number of defining models have permanently changed the broader automotive landscape. They join owners and enthusiasts around the world in marking this special event and celebrating the enduring legacies of this legendary and much-loved vehicle.
