How to repair a security program in Windows 10?

Security has become a big concern today. In this digital world, cyber-attacks are increasing day by day. To secure your device and network from all these threats, you need a good security program. Applications like antivirus aid the security and prevent malware infection. Antivirus provides tools like a power scanner, firewall, VPN, data shredder, etc to keep the device and data secured. To keep your device secured, your antivirus must run robustly. Whenever your security program shows any error, you should immediately repair it.

Common causes behind security program issues

  1. Incompatible security program
  2. The antivirus subscription is expired
  3. Registry files are not working
  4. A third-party program is corrupting your antivirus
  5. System files are not working
  6. You have another security program on your PC
  7. Antivirus is outdated
  8. Lots of junk files on the PC

Top ways to resolve security program issues

Restart the computer

Your antivirus can show errors when it meets a runtime error. To fix the errors, you should restart the computer. Restarting the device will fix the runtime errors. Close the antivirus and all other apps on your Windows 10. Now restart the computer and click on your antivirus icon. On the dashboard, tap on the scan button, and your antivirus will start scanning the computer for malware.

Check the resource requirements

Like all applications, antivirus also has a few requirements. Your antivirus will only run if the PC is providing all the required resources. Go to the antivirus and check for the resource requirements of your program. Now check all the specifications of the PC. If the computer is not providing the required resources, you can’t use the antivirus. You can upgrade your device or can install another security program.

Renew the subscription

In paid antivirus programs, you get a yearly or monthly subscription. When you have a subscription, you can use all paid tools on your program. If the antivirus is not working, check for a subscription. If the license is expired, renew it immediately. Some programs also provide auto-renewing features. The paid plans renew automatically before the expiry. But if you don’t need to renew the program, cancel the auto-renewal. Sometimes the user doesn’t want to use the program but the license gets auto-renewed. Go for Avast cancel subscription refund. Cancel the renewed plan and you can request a refund. After getting the refund you can easily get a new program for your device.

Repair the registry files

Applications need registry files to get the correct path. If the registry files of your antivirus are not working, it can’t find the path. To fix the error, repair the registry files. Go to the computer and open Run wizard. Type Regedit and hit the Run button. The registry editor page will appear on the screen. Check for all registry files and search antivirus-related files. Before editing any file, you should create a backup key. Copy all registry files and save them with the .reg extension. After creating the backup key, fix the registry files. You should only repair those files if you know the correct steps. After repairing the files, restart the computer and now check for the antivirus error.

Check for the recently installed application

Sometimes, your antivirus starts showing errors when you have installed a malicious program. Users often install free editing or gaming tools. Some of these applications often carry malware like adware, etc. These applications can interrupt the scanning service. When the antivirus runs a scan, these files interrupt it. You should remove a malicious program from the device. Open the Apps folder and check for recently installed applications. If you have any non-reliable application, uninstall it. Remove all the files of the application and restart the computer. Now you can easily run antivirus on your device.

 Repair system files

Your applications can show problems when some of the system files are not working. These files get corrupted easily due to any minor causes. But fixing system files is difficult. If the system files of your computer are not working then you should repair it. But edit any system file only when you know the steps. Any wrong edit on the system file can cause more damage. To fix system files, you can also use the inbuilt file repair tool of Windows. Open the run bar and type SFC/scannow and tap on the Run button. This tool will inspect the system files and repair them. After running the tool, restart the PC and check for antivirus errors.

Use only one security program

Your antivirus will show errors when you have other security applications. You should use only one security program on the device. Multiple security programs will conflict with each other. When malware appears, both security programs try to detect it and get into error. You should check for installed security programs on the PC. Open the computer and go to the Apps folder. Now check the security apps on the list. Keep one security program and uninstall others from the PC. Restart the computer and now run a full system scan.
