Ford Escape Rumors Point to 2026 as Final Model Year. Is It Time for a Deal?

What’s Happening with the Ford Escape?

Ford has confirmed there will be a 2026 model year for the Escape, meaning 2025 won’t mark the end just yet. However, FordAuthority.com reports that the 2026 Escape will only be offered with a non-California emissions package. As a result, it cannot be newly registered in six states—California, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, Oregon, and Washington—due to more stringent emissions regulations.

Reports also point to the Louisville Assembly plant halting Escape production by December 2025 to retool for future electric vehicle manufacturing. It appears 2026 will be an abbreviated year before the model transitions out entirely.

Market Dynamics – Why the Escape Is Being Phased Out

Though still a solid performer—selling around 147,000 units in 2024 and rising in early 2025—the Escape has been steadily losing ground to rivals like the RAV4 and CR‑V. Ford seems to be consolidating its compact SUV lineup around newer, more profitable models like the Bronco Sport, which remains available nationwide.

The phasing out also aligns with stricter EPA and CARB emissions standards. Ford appears to be choosing not to invest in bringing the Escape’s emissions systems up to CARB compliance, especially as they shift toward electrification.

How Rumors Are Affecting Prices

Even before fully exiting the market, Escape prices, especially on 2025 and incoming 2026 MY models, are already being discounted. In fact, dealers are offering up to $2,000 off Plug‑in Hybrid versions and $1,000 off standard hybrids and gas models.

The early signs of a phase-out and the limited availability in some states have put downward pressure on both new and used Escape prices. Informed buyers might be able to take advantage of these developments to find a better deal.

Shopping Tip – Where to Look

If you’re in the market for a late‑model Escape (2022–2026), now’s a smart time to act—especially if you’re outside those six restricted states. Browse current inventories at CarFinderZone:
