How to draw a fishing rod – let’s get initiated!

Step 1

We’ll keep things nice and simple for this first step of our guide on how to draw a fishing rod. As we mentioned in the introduction, even drawing simple objects like a fishing rod can be surprisingly tricky, so the best way to avoid this is to break it down into smaller steps.

For this first part, we will draw the beginning of the outline of the fishing rod part. To do this, all you require to do is draw a smooth, just curved line. If you show that this fishing rod caught a fish, you can pull the line in a steeper curve. Once you’ve removed this, we can continue to step 2!

Step 2

Before we draw more of the rod part of your fishing rod drawing, we’ll first begin pulling the handle and the rod part. First, remove half of a minor, rounded rectangular shape at the base of the cane. We’ll only draw half of this shape since the spool will go into space when we remove it in the next step.

Before doing that, we’ll also remove the rod’s handle. To do this, add a more extended, rounded rectangular shape attached to a smooth line. That’s all there is to do for this step, so let’s move on to the next.

Step 3

Next, in this how to draw a fishing rod guide, we will remove the reel and the rest of the outline of the rod. First, let’s start with the revolution. This will be marked with a circular shape for the central part of the spool. Next, we’ll draw a thin, angular shape sticking out for the reel handle.

This hold will also have a round figure at the end. Once you’ve drawn this reel, we can get back to focusing on the fishing rod. Remove the line from the outside edge of the cane. We won’t be using a continuous line for the inside. Instead, we’ll leave some small spaces where we’ll draw the rings that the line passes through later. Try replicating this line as it appears in the reference image, and then we can continue!

Step 4

On an accurate fishing rod, the line from the reel will be wound through several small rings, and these are the ones we will now add to the drawing of your fishing rod. Just draw a few small circles in each space you left on the cane to add them. Once removed, we’ll draw a straight line from the top of the post.

Then, to pull a lure, you can add an oval shape with several small, skinny forms sticking out of the base. Finish off by drawing a curved hook attached to this, and then you’re ready to add some final details in the next step.

step 5

This image already looks great, but in this step of our guide on drawing a fishing rod, we’ll finish with a few details that will make it look even better. Start by drawing curved lines on the oval part of the fishing rod. Decoy to add a few more facts to it.

Next, we will remove the fishing line itself. Use some curved lines to thread it through the rings until it connects to the spool. Speaking of the reel, you can also put more details on it and the handle. Once these pieces are drawn, what else choice you add? Maybe you could tense a fish at the back of the rod!

step 6

In this final part of drawing your fishing rod, you can finish it off with some color. We kept the colors of the fishing rod a bit more muted in our reference image, as we used some browns and reds for the most part.

For a bit of contrast, we incorporated colors like yellows and greens into small details on the reel and lure. Will you use similar colors for your image, or would you prefer to choose some unique colors? We can’t pause to see what you select!
