Toyota Vios Autocross: rekindling the lost passion

This is the story of my so-called pilot profession. And some details are relevant to the Toyota Vios price Philippines.

Not too long ago, I joined the automotive world as the new creative director of this site. It’s all too familiar: I have over a decade of experience as an advertising photographer and used to be an auto journalist for a local automotive website and newspaper in my hometown. And joining AI rekindled my love of cars. I have started again taking pictures of cars, recording videos and creating social media content, but this time with more experience.

A few months ago, I was invited to participate in the Autocross TGR Vios Cup 2022 challenge in the advertising media category. I was up against a younger group with more experience in auto racing and auto racing in particular. As far as I can remember, the last time I walked the sacred grounds of the Clark International Freeway was in the pre-pandemic era. I only started drag racing back in 2015 and that pretty much sums up the current state of my motorsport career.

Fast forward to 2022, I’m representing Autoindustriya with my teammate Jamil Lacuna racing in the Sporting Media class. I found myself once again dressed and wearing a helmet. The first leg saw a very bad result. I’m last in my division and I have too many mistakes to fix.

Another month goes by and I find myself getting dressed again, this time for the Toyota GR Festival. That’s when I’m getting a big hit, literally and figuratively. We did another autocross challenge, a quarter-mile challenge and followed by a 5-lap lead around the lap. Jamil, who rode the shotgun with me for most of the training sessions, guided and trained me. I felt more confident and performed the performance.

This weekend has seen the return leg of the 2022 TGR Vios Cup. The typical early morning drive to Clark on Friday is all too familiar again.

Vios Cup OMR cars look so familiar that there are no barriers. The two of you accept each other. An elusive nod and a bright smile said it all. I jumped into the car, strapped it to the Vios Cup and immediately put my hands on the steering wheel. That tingling sensation is there. I feel natural with the car and I drove much better than the previous two times we tried. Everything is fine, everything is fine.

As we moved on to the next exercise in the afternoon, the feeling of happiness, calm, and approval was already there. Everything fell into place. I find my times faster as my runs get cleaner. I had the opportunity to ride a shotgun with teammate Jamil and vice versa, we could compare notes and he was able to fine-tune my riding.

The real race came, I was just focused on a clean race to qualify, I just told myself to be better at the end and have a clean race. I took 4th place in the qualifying round and made it to the top 4. The final match came and I faced a younger opponent and finished 2nd in our division in the first leg. On the first run, I saw him finish faster than I did as we approached the stops.

Changing my way, I told myself to give my all and enjoy this trip. He crashed on the 360 part of the track and I took advantage of it to go faster. When I got to my last part before going straight home, I could still see him at the end. As soon as I stepped on the brake, I dropped everything. The adrenaline rush was there. I asked for my time and went back to the pit.

After the last transplant in our department, it turned out to be the best time of the day. I was able to get 2nd place this time, but not too far from winning. I want to do better, and that’s why I love this sport.

But what I really love about racing is the camaraderie. Whether it’s a series of serious races or even just for fun, you’ll meet like-minded people and connect with them. You just have a good time sharing ideas, joking around, and even comparing race notes to help each other excel. That’s what Gazoo Racing is: fun, friendship and fast-paced times.
