In the beating heart of the Brazilian Amazon, on the imposing banks of the Solimões River, rises a landmark of innovation and sustainability: the Sustainable Village of Coari (AM). This visionary initiative, led by former athlete and now entrepreneur Ronaldo Gomes, head of D’Souza Construtora, proposes much more than the construction of housing — it inaugurates a new way of thinking about living, combining cutting-edge technology, respect for traditional ways of life, and a deep commitment to environmental preservation. The challenge was to develop housing that was, at the same time, sustainable, functional, and integrated into the local reality, meeting the daily needs of its inhabitants.
The architectural solution was born from a modular concept, which fostered harmony with the natural environment and the cultural heritage of the Indigenous population. The project, designed by D’Souza Construtora, combined low-impact technologies, traditional knowledge, and innovative sustainability practices, creating a model that respects both the resources of the Amazon territory and community values.
Among the innovations implemented, the following stand out:
- Intelligent rainwater harvesting systems
- Clean energy generation through solar panels
- Structures designed for natural ventilation and thermal comfort
- An unprecedented human solid waste treatment system (TAF)
- Selective use of local raw materials
These choices significantly reduced the carbon emissions associated with the project and, at the same time, boosted the regional economy, promoting jobs and valuing local knowledge. Each unit was designed to offer thermal comfort, safety, and full adaptation to the Amazon climate, without compromising cultural preservation.
