If you have children in FBISD, you’re probably familiar with their online learning platform called Skyward fbisd Family Access. The purpose of this program is to allow parents to monitor their child’s grades and attendance, set educational goals, and get information about upcoming events at their school as well as the district. However, some parents may be confused about how this software works and what its features are, which is why I decided to write this article on FBISD Skyward Family Access for them. Here’s everything you need to know about it!
How To Get Started
To begin, you’ll want to first log in on your student dashboard. Scroll down and look for Family Access then click on it. Once you click on that, there should be a blue box where you enter your username and password. The email that they send will have instructions on how to create a username/password as well.
Why Should I Have An Account?
If you have children in any of your schools, whether they be K-5, 6-8 or 9-12, you should have an account. Having an account allows for easier communication with teachers and school staff about your child’s progress and achievement. Having an account also enables parent portal access from anywhere there is internet access.
Is The Data Secure?
The information is encrypted using industry-standard security protocols and can only be accessed by you and your family. That means if someone else (including a hacker) gains access to your password, they’ll still need a keycode sent to your phone or received as an SMS message in order to get into your account.
Where Does The Data Go?
In order for you or your teachers to access your student’s data, it has to go somewhere. There are actually two different places that it could end up. Data being accessed by teachers will be uploaded into SIS (Student Information System). This data can only be used by the district, school, and appropriate staff members, meaning they must have some sort of access level (Teacher, Paraprofessional or Administrator) within a school in order to see any of their students’ information.
Can My Child See Their Grades On Their Phone?
Students can access their grades via their parents’ accounts through Facebook. However, parents cannot see their children’s grades. Students do not have access to parent accounts on Facebook. Parental and student privacy is always a top priority in our district, and we want you to feel confident that your information is secure. We follow state guidelines for using social media as an educational tool.

What If My Child Doesn’t Have A Cell Phone?
If your child does not have a cell phone, you can easily purchase one for him or her. One great way to save money is to use a prepaid cell phone. These phones come with no contract, so you’re free from any long-term financial commitment. Students can also get a cheap cell phone from Walmart if they don’t have one already! All of these options are easy on your bank account and will allow you and your student to keep in touch.
How Do I Know My Child’s Grades On Their Device?
The easiest way to check your child’s grades is through your own Student Detail view within MyAccess. If you are logged in, go up to the Student Detail tab and you will be able to click on each student listed. This will bring up a list of all classes that have assignments due with their grades next to them.
