3 Tips to Keep Your Horse Healthy and Well-Fed

Taking care of your horse’s health and nutrition can be stressful, especially if you don’t know where to start. If you need help finding the right balance of food and medicine to maintain your horse’s optimum level of health, then try these three tips to keep your horse healthy and well-fed. They should help him live his life in comfort and quality while also giving you peace of mind that he’s being taken care of properly.

Horses are social animals, and in the wild they would live in small herds that stick together and help each other out when times get tough. Since we don’t have the option of keeping our horses with their herd, we must do everything we can to give them the best care possible and keep them healthy at all times. If you want your horse to be healthy and happy, it’s important to make sure they are properly fed and given plenty of exercise. Here are three tips to keep your horse healthy and well-fed. It’s also essential that you do your part to make sure your horse stays healthy and gets plenty of exercise, or if best, using horses feed at BARASTOC!

1) Don’t Forget About Hay

Hay is important for horses because it’s what provides the majority of their nutrients. All horses should have access to hay that is clean, dry, and fresh. It’s also a good idea to feed them with an all-hay diet for at least two weeks out of the year. What you want to avoid is feeding your horse green pastures in excess, as this can cause digestive problems such as ulcers or colic. Remember, too much vitamin A is just as bad as not enough!

It’s also important that your horse’s hay be available at all times. It can be tempting to save money by feeding your horse with hay cubes, but many horses will forget about food if it isn’t consistently offered. Some horses won’t touch their hay until they see you offering them something else or because they’re hungry, so make sure you don’t overfeed your horses or they may end up going hungry! It’s also a good idea to feed your horse multiple smaller meals throughout the day rather than one large meal. This will help prevent ulcers, which can develop if a horse has one large meal and then goes several hours without eating again. Of course, all of these tips are only useful if you practice them consistently!

2) Insist on Quality Grain

Make sure you are buying top quality grain that is organic, fresh, and sourced from the area where your horse lives. One of the easiest ways to check the quality of your grain is by looking at it: if it’s dusty or smells moldy, avoid it. You should also make sure the weight is on point – if there’s a huge difference between the bag you are currently using and a new one that you picked up, do not switch without checking with someone who knows what they’re doing. This one thing can often lead to laminitis for horses.

3) Make sure your horse is getting exercise

This is the most important factor in your horse’s health. Without proper exercise, he or she can develop poor muscle tone and increase his risk of injury. Keep your horse on a regular exercise schedule, whether it be daily walks, trail rides, or weight training workouts. Not only will this help him stay healthy physically, but also mentally by providing stimulation that is beneficial for preventing boredom, depression and aggressiveness. In addition to ensuring your horse has plenty of opportunity for physical activity, don’t forget the importance of feeding him a healthy diet.
